Small Wedding Live Streaming: Dos and Don’ts

Even though live streaming your wedding is relatively new, there is plenty of etiquette surrounding the topic already. So, to make things a little bit easier, we’re coming to you with all of the “dos” and “don’ts” we’ve picked up on after streaming over 500 weddings.

If you’re having a smaller in-person wedding, that likely means that your at-home guest list is quite large. Rather than having a big in-person wedding with a live stream as a backup option, you’re opting for a smaller guest list and inviting a lot of friends and loved ones to join online.

So you want to make sure to give those guests the best possible experience when it comes to watching your wedding in real-time. Read on for some of our favorite live stream wedding etiquette rules.

Do send invitations to live stream wedding guests.

Make sure your at-home guests don’t feel like an afterthought. This is especially true if these are people who would, given other circumstances (budget, pandemic, etc), certainly be invited to attend your wedding in-person. Make them feel special by sending them official invites to join your virtually for your upcoming wedding. These can be paper invites that have a traditional feel or they can be virtual invitations so your guests can simply click a link right from their email (hint we love these from Minted!).

Do hire a wedding live stream service.

Do your research when choosing which wedding live streaming service to go with. Do they use a complicated technology like Zoom? Do they have a proprietary streaming set up? Are they on-site? These are all questions to consider when choosing which live streaming service is right for your individual wedding.

Don’t try to do it on your own.

Along the lines of the above sentiment… don’t try to DIY your wedding live stream. It’s your wedding, you have one shot to capture it for everyone who can’t actively be there to help you celebrate. Free apps might seem like a good option, but consider all of the things that could go wrong and the lack of support and features.

Do give a special shout-out to your at-home guests.

We love when our couples give a shout out to the guests at home. Whether this is included in the ceremony itself or, our favorite, a goodbye message to sign off to the virtual guests.

You can even do a welcome message! Check out one of our favorite welcome messages from Beau & Aidan.

Do choose a service that includes all of the bells and whistles.
