Wedding or Mortgage?

Wedding or mortgage – it’s a question that almost every couple has to ask. When considering the financial impact of both situations, some can only choose one. It’s difficult to decide what matters more and makes the most sense for you, but by asking the hard questions and listening to a few tips from our LoveStream pros, we’re sure you and your partner will find the right answer!

Why Wedding?

For some people, they’ve dreamed of their wedding since as early as they can imagine. The sight of a fully decorated reception area, complete with overflowing flowers, crisp linens, and the click of a photographer’s camera has always been at the forefront of their mind. It’s hard to not love the idea of a wedding. A celebration about you and the person you love? Sign us up!

For some people, its non-negotiable. If you land in that category, then maybe budgeting for a wedding is more important than putting a down payment on a home. If you’re fine where you’re living now and see no reason to move, then by all means – go wedding! Sarah Miller of the new Netflix show “Marriage or Mortgage” came on our podcast, Every Day I’m Bustlin’, to discuss why she says marriage over mortgage. Her reasoning? A beautiful day celebrating you and your person’s love sets the tone for the rest of your marriage.

Why Mortgage?

Home buying is a big deal! It’s exciting to no longer worry about a landlord and remodel how you’d like. Living in an apartment with roommates doesn’t match up to the thrill of finding and living in a beautiful home you own with your someone special. Home ownership comes with a lot of responsibility though, particularly financial. It costs quite a bit to own and maintain a home, and there are a lot of upfront costs associated with buying a house. For some, this doesn’t matter. They care far more about having their own space than the responsibilities that comes with it. If you’re willing to make that choice, maybe a mortgage is more important that having a big, expensive wedding. Saving that money for your dream home and dream furnishings might be your best decision yet.

What About Both?

If you don’t want to compromise on having both, don’t. With LoveStream, you can live stream your wedding to hundreds of guests, allowing them the opportunity to enjoy your big day without the costs associated. You can still buy the perfect dress or tux, have a great photographer, and enjoy gorgeous florals without missing out on a mortgage payment. It’s a win-win.
