Venues for Small Weddings

There are small wedding venues… and then there are venues that can accommodate a small wedding. And they are surprisingly different!

A venue that can accommodate a small wedding can include anything from your backyard to the MOMA - whereas a true small wedding venue is space specifically marketed for weddings, but that has a smaller guest capacity.

With a lot of couples cutting guest lists - either due to the pandemic, personal preference or budget - we thought we’d offer a slew of ideas for places to host your small wedding. This is especially helpful if you are finding traditional wedding venues don’t have your date available.

So, if you’re having a small or micro wedding - read on and discover our list of venues to have a small wedding.

17 venues for small weddings.

  1. A museum - we mentioned the MOMA, but even if you aren’t in NYC, you likely have a museum or art gallery near you that offers event space.

  2. A backyard - it doesn’t have to be your backyard, but if you know of a great backyard space, consider it for your mini wedding.

  3. Your living room - yep, that’s a real small wedding venue (unless you’re Kim Kardashian, but our living rooms can accommodate just a handful of guests). Some of our favorite live stream weddings have taken place in living rooms.

  4. An AirBNB - an AirBNB with a cute patio could be the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. If you find a gorgeous home you want to make yours for the weekend, just be sure the host allows events before you start planning.

  5. A boat - another favorite of our live stream wedding couples! We’ve seen so many cute weddings happen on small boats.

  6. A zoo - we love a good zoo wedding! That said, most zoo’s don’t accommodate hundreds of guests at private events, so it’s the ideal small wedding venue.

  7. A brewery - if your favorite craft brewery has event space, don’t sleep on it for a wedding! Some breweries even offer catering or will let you bring in outside food for your event.

  8. A national park - with the millions of acres of national parkland in the United States, you might be wondering why to consider this for a small wedding. But trust us, an intimate wedding in the shade of a thousand-year-old redwood or on top of a volcano makes a big statement.

  9. A treehouse - did you know you can rent a grown-up treehouse for your wedding? Talk about a whimsical wedding.

  10. A beach - sure, you can have a huge wedding on a beach, but we like the idea of a small beach wedding just as much. Your toes in the sand, the sea breeze on your skin. It’s the perfect place to tie the knot.

  11. A monument or landmark - from the Washington Monument in DC to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, an intimate wedding for a small group of loved ones at a historic landmark is just a cool alternative to a big, bustling party. As with getting married in any public area - be sure to do your research to make sure you’re allowed to have a wedding in a specific location.

  12. A butterfly habitat - kind of like a zoo, a butterfly habitat or butterfly house is an indoor, climate-controlled, greenhouse-esque space full of native and exotic butterflies. It’s a dream wedding venue for a small guest list!

  13. A library - libraries, especially historic libraries, make for elegant backdrops for book-loving couples.

  14. A coffee shop - do you have a local cafe you absolutely adore? Maybe it’s the same one where you had your first date. Go ahead and inquire about hosting a small wedding surrounded by the scent of freshly-ground coffee beans.

  15. A college campus - if you are your partner have a lot of school spirit for your alma mater, consider getting married there!

  16. A restaurant - have a restaurant you love? Host your event there!

  17. A submarine - if you’re adventurous and have equally adventurous (and non-claustrophobic) loved ones, get married under the deep blue sea in a submarine. Maybe you can have your first dance to Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid.

Live stream your small wedding from anywhere.

Even from a submarine (well, if the submarine has wifi!).

You might not always be able to include an extended list of guests at your wedding - and that’s okay! We make it easy to live stream your wedding from anywhere, to anywhere. Compare our wedding live stream packages today and discover how easy it is to share your event with everyone.
